Washington Butler is a Puyallup native who was fascinated by arts and culture from an early age. She was a performer in high school theatre and in the community theatre. Her move from Los Angeles to study theatre at the University of Southern California and later, she played Belle the princess of Beauty and the Beast for about a year at Disneyland. After she quit school, she began searching for an agency to represent her talents and auditioning to work in film and television. While initially dissuaded by the film's nakedness and its violence, the film's strong female edge and character arc convinced her to play the part.
